My mother always taught me this in the kitchen. She always told me how important it was to keep a clean kitchen. While cooking, if something spills, clean it. If something is supposed to be put back in the refrigerator, put it back. And when things need to be thrown away, throw it way. And always wash your hands after.
In relationships, if you clean while you cook, the mess will not be that bad when you are done cooking—or there may not be a mess at all. Just don’t let things build up. It will be overwhelming to clean everything and your food will get cold. Just imagine the dirtiest kitchen ever, now, replace the dirtiness with problems in a relationship.
If something spills, clean it. If someone is hurt, fix it.
